Attorney Boyd Law Office · Mansfield, Ohio
The people you work with matter as much as the firm you hire. Our attorneys bring not only legal skill and experience to every case, but a shared commitment to the values that define this practice.
John Boyd has practiced law in Ohio since 2005 and founded this office in 2015. He is admitted to the Supreme Court of Ohio and to the U.S. District Courts for both the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio.
He began as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Richland County's adult criminal division, where he tried eighteen felony jury trials and served on the Ohio Jail Advisory Board. In 2008 he joined a Mansfield firm, where he defended felony and misdemeanor cases at trial and on appeal, handled divorce and juvenile proceedings, and represented Chapter 7 bankruptcy debtors. Since founding this office he has added estate planning and probate administration to that work.
A graduate of the University of Akron School of Law, where he received a Board of Trustees Full Tuition Scholarship, he earned his degree in English, magna cum laude, from The Ohio State University, completing the four-year program in two years. His practice rests on a simple conviction: legal problems are never merely legal. They are human problems with legal consequences.
Chase Baker grew up in the Clear Fork area of Richland County and came home to practice. He earned his undergraduate degree from Grace College and his Juris Doctor from Regent University School of Law in 2021. He was admitted to the Illinois bar that year and to the Ohio bar in 2022.
From 2021 to 2023 he served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney with the Richland County Prosecutor's Office, carrying his own caseload as first chair: criminal cases from intake through trial, a juvenile court docket, appellate briefing and oral argument, and civil work that included serving as lead counsel in more than two hundred tax foreclosure cases and representing county agencies in foreclosure and probate matters.
He now brings a prosecutor's understanding of how criminal and juvenile cases are built and resolved in north-central Ohio courts to the clients of this office.
Jonathan Walthour joined Attorney Boyd Law Office, Ltd. in 2025. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 2024, where he received the Torts CALI Award and served on the staff of the Human Rights Quarterly, and was admitted to the Ohio bar the same year. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Bible, and Theology from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.
Before joining the firm, he worked in the Covington, Kentucky trial office of the Department of Public Advocacy, Kentucky's public defender, representing clients in District Court trials and probation-violation hearings, interviewing clients in and out of custody, and building defense theories from the discovery. He also served as a judicial extern for the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas, researching and drafting opinions on civil and criminal motions.
He brings that courtroom experience to the criminal defense clients of this office. He lives in Mansfield.
"A lawyer shapes not only the case, but the client's posture within it."
The attorneys at this firm share more than a practice — they share a way of seeing people and conflict. Each has been trained not only in legal technique but in the kind of judgment, restraint, and steadiness that this office requires. The philosophy that governs the firm governs the people who work within it.
That means clients encounter consistency across every interaction — not only with their attorney, but with every member of the office. The same commitment to honesty, dignity, and grounded counsel that defines our senior representation runs through the whole practice.
A law office is never only a place where legal tasks are performed. It is also a relational environment — one that clients encounter from the moment they first call through the resolution of their matter. The support staff of this office carry the same philosophy as its attorneys: dignity in every interaction, honesty in every communication, and order that clients can rely on.
Their work is not secondary to representation. It is part of it.
A shared philosophy creates consistency — and consistency is one of the most underrated forms of care. Clients should not encounter steadiness from the attorney and chaos from the rest of the office. Every person here understands what this practice is trying to be.
Calls are returned. Deadlines are taken seriously. Hard facts are shared early rather than postponed. We do not shade information to keep people comfortable.
No mocking of clients — even when they are difficult. No contempt for people in distress. Every person who contacts this office is treated as a person of worth.
Order itself is reassuring. Clients come from environments marked by instability. An office that is clear, structured, and dependable offers something genuinely valuable.
